Gudred Vikings Set 1 Set 2

Last month I received two resin sets of Viking figures made by Gudred. These resin sets are made in limited numbers and cost around the same as the Publius sets. I would say these figures fall into the category of military miniatures as opposed to toy soldiers. The first two sets by Gudred are dark age Swedes. He made these historical accurate figures for medieval enthusiasts.

The figures are in 1/32 scale. They were sculpted to be realistic. Some of the figures are bigger than others. The scale of the weapons & items are the same but the height of the figures vary. Some of the figures blend very well with Conte Vikings. Some look better with 54mm Marx Vikings.

Here is the first set of Swedes. There are no horned helmets here, lol. As you can see in the pictures the details are amazing. Plus the variety of different faces is really nice. Sometimes with a set of figures you will get different poses with the same face. I think the first set Swedes are of levy type warriors. Most are dressed in a fabric with no armor & helmets. Most are armed with spears or axes. Check out the pictures below. You can click on them to get a closer look.

Here is the second set of Swedes. This set looks more like professional warriors. They are mostly equipped in chain mail & helmets. Also three of the figures are armed with a sword which was not a common weapon in the early dark ages. Here are some more pictures below of the second set.

All in all I am pleased with these figures. They are made of a liquid plastic resin. It feels like a hard model type plastic. The pros are that they historical accurate and the sculpting is really sharp. The cons are the high cost. Also to be considered was the fact that these figures had to be assembled. For me it was not a problem. But it might be for some collectors. The other issues might be the scale of some of the figures. I am going to paint these figures to further bring out the details.

  2. Thank you Mike. The figures look awesome. They fit perfectly with the Conte Vikings and Normans and they can make the difference in a display or diorama. The sculpt is great, with many accurate details (weapons, heads, helmets…). Great post, Hoping to see your next review. Regards
