latest-news

Here is the next update a day earlier than planned. I wanted to put everything in one blog post for Sunday. But due to a my new work schedule for the summer I will be unable to. So I posted yesterday and today. I will be posting less for the summer as I will be too busy with my job and some projects that I am working on. In today’s post I have some hobby news & updates.

Next we have some news about Hudson & Allen Studio. They are owned by W. Britain.

“We are now offering a selection of different scenic bases for toy soldier displays. These are 12” X 12” squares of grass and soil on 1/4” thick MDF panels. All five types are designed to be used together in various combinations and are durable and realistic. These easy to use scenic bases are compatible with all major manufacturers figures and vehicles. The overhead pictures shows the basic types now available with a slight space shown between as an illustration, country road, field, edge of meadow, meadow and field with short bushes. The second photo shows two bases in front of our WWII backdrop along with a couple of W. Britain German Fallschirmjagers (paratroopers) for scale reference. These bases are available direct only and will be listed on our website today.” W. Britain Toy Soldier & Model Figure Company ~

Here are a couple of paintings by James Ayers. I think they look great. They also make a great reference when painting. You can check out more his works of art at http://www.jamesayers.com/.

That is it about the hobby news and updates. Last week we were looking at the Mars Japanese figures. The new Paratroopers are based on the 1/72 plastic figures they make. It made me think about the Matchbox WWII Japanese Infantry set that I picked up in a hobby store sometime in the 1990’s. The set is 1/76 in scale. The set had 49 figures in 19 poses. I wished they would have also made this set in 1/32 scale. It would have been a nice set. Here are some pictures of the 19 poses in this set below.

  1. Sorry about my delay Mike. I am very busy with work these days. Awesome news in your last three posts. The John Jenkins shield wall looks great. I hope to see it painted soon (with flags!!!). The Japanese paratroopers are a great surprise, it is a very rare option. I think many WWII collectors will be very happy.
What can I say about the German paratroopers in Crete? They are ready to… speak. The sculpt is superb, what a great display you can make now if you love the subject.
I remember the Matchbox soldiers, they made some versions in 1/35 scale. I have some WWII boxes of Africa Korps & British 8th army soldiers when I was a child, but I can not remember the Japanese soldiers. I think they have the same sculptor as Airfix. He worked also with A Call to Arms. I can not remember his name.
Great news about TSSD restocked. Hope to know from you soon. Thank you for sharing it. Best regards
