Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show 2022 Review

When the doors were opened for the show, it looked like Pickett’s Charge… Well at least it felt that way. The show started a half hour earlier than it was supposed to because I think a crowd had started to build up. There was a group of collectors that went straight to my table. The next few hours were spent talking to fellow collectors and selling toy soldiers. Me and Carolyn had a lot of fun. It was my most successful show so far.

I was told that it was a record crowd, the biggest ever. I have to apologize because I was so busy, I was not able to take as many pictures that I usually do and didn’t talk to everyone that I wanted to. I usually am able to walk around before the show starts and/or a few hours after into the show. Around 2pm I found some time to take some more pictures. Every time I did walk around, I came back to help someone with my products.

We will start the review with Paul Amody. He had his very detailed Russian painted figures. As usual they were outstanding.

Gary from Army Group Center Wargaming had a bunch of plastic as usual. You can check out his website over here, https://army-group-center-wargaming.myshopify.com/.

John Atherton had a ton of his foam products with him. He makes some of the best terrain pieces on the market. I was also selling a few products that he had made for LOD.

If you are a Barzso Playset collector, you missed another chance to get some good or fair deals. I would have scored if I needed any of the playsets for sale there. Most of them I already own.

I don’t collect these old type of toy soldiers. But I do appreciate their charm. These are like antiques.

Rick Eber as usual had a bunch of vintage toy soldiers and playsets. I wasn’t able to take as many pictures of his stuff that I would have liked to. You can check out his website over here, http://www.marxplaysets.com/index.html.

This was the first time Hobby Bunker attended the Gettysburg Show. They have everything you need. Plastic and painted metal toy soldiers, wargaming, terrain pieces, magazines and other hobby related items. Here is their website, https://www.hobbybunker.com/.

Rob Hornung had his painted metal figures. To me they are like folk art. He puts a lot of hard work into his creations. Over 30 years ago I was casting toy soldiers. I would melt the hobby metal and then pour it into a mold. Then paint them. It takes skill and some time. But Rob does more than that. He sculpts them. Makes the molds. Then he will cast them and finally paint them. His work is amazing.

Next to Rob in the picture above was another vendor named Frank. I am sorry I didn’t get your last name of was able to talk more to him. This is some of his work he had for sale.

I have not seen George Guerriero of Minutemen Toy Soldiers in a couple of years now. But as usual he has some nice displays of the painted metal toy soldiers. He usually brings John Jenkins, First Legion, W. Britain and King & Country. Plus some other brands and plastic toy soldiers. Mike had a lot of Britain Deetail figures.

It was nice to see Paul Stadinger at the show. He is an icon of our hobby. He was one the dealers that got me into collecting. His wife Laurie had passed away in early March. I was glad to be able to spend some time with him. He sat behind my table for a bit and talked with me & Carolyn. He has a lot of knowledge about vintage plastic toy soldiers. This was the second show where I had my resin miniatures for sale. I am producing these from my house. Made in the U.S.A. I had with me about 10 different sets. Most of them where the 11th century Saxons. I had both of the Saxon Shield Wall sets. Plus, both of the F&I War French Marine sets. And even a show special set of Viking Raiders that were just finished a few days before the show. The raiders were from the first group of Viking figures I am designing. I am working on another two groups of Vikings. They will be finished in a couple of months. Once that is done, I will then divide them into 3 or 4 sets. I should have all of these sets ready for production by the end of the summer.

**Anglo Saxons miniatures that are in production or near production.**

I am in the process of adding more Saxons sets for production soon. Sometime in May I will add two Saxon (Fyrd) Shield Wall sets and a set of Archers. The Armed Saxon Peasants are already in production. Beginning in May, all the Saxons will be printed in Brown!!!

On Sunday, May 1st is the Gettysburg Toy Soldier show. It is a great show. There is mixture of plastic and painted metal toy soldiers. Both new and vintage. I will have the French Marines and Saxon Shield Wall sets available for purchase. Plus, some prototypes and Barzso/LOD products.

There is a lot going on with Warhorse Miniatures these days. We have the new Saxon and French & Indian War sets coming out this spring. Then some Viking sets this summer. We will return to the Saxons this Fall and then for the Winter some more French & Indian War sets. Besides that, I continue to work on some older projects. Like the Blacksmith & Potter shops and the Viking Raiders camp. My workshop continues to expand. Soon I will be able to produce the tents, shops and other bigger things.

Midwest Toy Soldier Show 2022 Review ~ Part Two The Show & The Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show & hobby news..

Last Sunday was the Midwest Toy Soldier Show. Here is my review of the show. I did a post about the room trading last week. If you missed that you could check it out over here, Midwest Toy Soldier Show 2022 Review ~ Part one Room Trading.

The crowd for the show was good. It wasn’t the biggest crowd that I have seen. But it was one of my best for selling. From 10am to around 1pm the foot traffic was consent. After that it died out. I had fun talking to fellow collectors about my new products and the hobby.

We start the review with Atherton Scenics. John brought a bunch of his foam terrain pieces. I am using slide shows on some of my pictures. Some of them you can click on the arrows on the side to see another picture in case you didn’t know.

David Cook of MicShaun’s Closet had plenty of the TSSD bagged figure sets. He also had Russian plastic figures, LOD/Barzso toy soldiers and foam terrain pieces. Plenty to select from and at good prices.

Scott Canday had plenty of Vintage playsets and Willy Pickett had his custom painted play mats.

Scott Campbell brought some figures that he had painted to show me. I like the choice of colors he uses and the style also.

Fellow collector named Curtis had a table next to me. He was selling a bunch of vintage toys.

There was a collector that had a diorama of Custer’s Last Stand in 1/72 scale.

Nate’s Garage Toy Soldiers has some amazing custom-made toys.

Rick always brings with him some amazing vintage playsets and plastic toys solders.

Rich also brings a lot of vintage playsets and toy soldiers. He usually has some Barzso or Conte products. He is a great person to deal with.

Doug Wood had this Conte Roman Galley for sale.

Besides the main room there were vendors in the hall. This year there were more collectors and vendors room trading and selling at the show. Maybe next year they could expand upstairs!! Not everyone brought toy soldiers. There were some vendors with action figures, comics, historical books and die cast cars.

Rob Hornung also had some amazing custom creations. The knights that he had with looked awesome. He sculpts, casts and paints his figures. They are made out of metal. The cost of the mounted knights ranged from $95 to $125.

Mike still had some of the original Barzso products for the show. He almost sold everything the first two days prior with the room trading.

Morehouse Military Miniatures had some nice resin cast and wooden home made wood products.

Paul had the amazing Russian painted miniatures with him.

I had two tables at the show. Besides my own line of miniatures, I had Barzso/LOD resin figures, LOD plastic toy soldiers, Warhansa & Publius figures and some foam terrain pieces. I set up a little display of my products and some prototypes.

Midwest Toy Soldier Show 2022 Review ~ Part one Room Trading

The Midwest Toy Soldier show was on Sunday. The show took place in Lafayette, Indiana. The two days before that there was room trading at the hotel where the show took place. There were plenty of vendors that took part. Room trading was a little slow, but the crowds showed up for the show. In today’s post I will discuss the first two days of the room trading.

Me & Carolyn arrived at hotel on Thursday. We were located on the second floor of the hotel. Once we settled in I then setup my products throughout the room for Friday. The next day we got up early and went to a few antique stores before returning to the hotel around noon. Then I started the event called room trading. Room trading is when you make your hotel room a little shop. Collectors will walk throughout he the hotel and shop at your “store”. I had a nice time talking to other collectors and answering any questions they had about my products. This was the 1st time that I was selling my line of Warhorse Miniatures figures. Most were the early Medieval sets. But I also had the new French Marines from the French & Indian War era. Beside that I had some of the LOD/Barzso figure sets & foam products and some Russian figure sets. Mostly Warhansa and some Publius. I was hoping to have some Prikaz products. But I don’t know when that will happen.

I took a break a few times to check out some of the other rooms. The first room I went to belonged to Todd Nace. He had a lot of vintage Marx figures and playsets.

The next room belonged to Eric Koopmeiner. He had vintage toy soldiers, playsets, action figures and some diecast vehicles.

Next, I visited the room of Rick Eber. Each year Rick brings some rare & new mint playsets. Every time I see him, he has something that I have never seen before. This year was the same.

It was now the evening when I closed up my room for trading. I went downstairs to see what was going on. By the time I got to John Anderson’s room he had almost sold everything he had. He usually brings a bunch of playsets and figure sets with him. Plus, vintage toys. Whatever he gets his hands on.

The last room I checked on Friday belonged to David Cook of MicShaun’s Closet. He had his TSSD bagged toy soldiers, foam products, LOD/Barzso products and some Russian figure sets. We had a lot of fun talking.

Late Friday in the lobby of the hotel there was a small gathering of collectors. There were about 20 collectors looking at some old Marx playsets. I think most were from the 1960’s. They belonged to John Anderson. They were still sealed. The boxes were in bad condition. But when they started to open them up, everything inside was mint. Except for some paper guides. The sets were sold to some of the collectors there. At this point it was almost 11pm. I then retired for the night.

I got up early on Saturday and took a stroll around the 1st floor before I opened my room. I went to visit Mike Kitnuck. Ron Barzso gave Mike a horde of original Barzso products that he had found to sell for him. There was over a 100 figure & accessories sets. I don’t know what else he had the day before. I found a few rare things to add to my collection. It was a Barzso collector’s dream. If this was a few years ago, I would have spent over a $1,000. Instead, I spent around $100. I could have horded a bunch of stuff. But I am in the process now of trimming my collections. So, I took only what I needed. I was tempted, but I left everything to some other lucky collectors.

Next up was the room of John Atherton. He was busy preparing his beautiful foam pieces for sale. His products are a must for anyone creating a diorama or even a small display. We had a good time talking about the hobby.

The next room I entered belonged to Scott Canady. He also had a lot of vintage playsets and toy soldiers. After I kept knocking down one of his displays of toy soldiers, I looked through some comics and around his room…

Francis Turners room had a huge amount of vintage Marx figures. Plus, some recast figures that were old too.

Gary Wendeln also had some Barzso figure sets and playsets with him. Plus, some other vintage toy soldiers.

The last room I checked out on Saturday belonged to fellow collector Willy Pickett. He had his custom playmats to enhance your vintage figures. Plus, some custom terrain pieces that he had painted.

Treefrog Treasures was room trading late afternoon on Saturday. They were the only major metal dealer at the show.

That is all on the room trading. I think next year I will only trade on Saturday. On Friday I will stroll around instead. I had a great time trading and talking to collectors. There were plenty of deals at this show. My next post will be on the show itself. Thank you for reading.

In today’s post we will talk about some new sets that I am releasing soon. One is not a Medieval set, but it is based on the French & Indian War. I have a few more updates and some hobby news. Before that I found a vintage playset yesterday. So, this is where we will begin.

I stumbled across this Britain Task Force Playset yesterday. I don’t have to many Britain Deetail figures in my collection. Just a few WWII figures. But for less than $30 I couldn’t pass on this. I never saw this playset before. The terrain base is awesome. There are 6 figures and some accessories. The spring-loaded mines are a nice touch. The set has a Nato type theme to it. I will add some modern Britain figures over time to my collection now.

**Toy Soldier Collector & Historical Figures Magazine #103**

There is an article about Warhorse Miniatures in the Toy Soldier Collector & Historical Figures magazine #103. In the article Jim Clouse discusses my 1st set and my company. Steve Pyle & Scott Walter helped with taking some pictures.

Talking about Steve Pyle, he sent me some pictures of my figures that he had painted. The first set of pictures is one of the Armed Saxon Peasants. The second set is a prototype of some Vikings with a deer.

In the coming weeks I will have some new set ready for production. The Saxon Hare Hunter set is $25, and the Saxon Wood Cutter set is $17. There are 4 different Wattle Fence sets. A round fence section with the gate open or closed. Then a straight fence section with the gate open or closed. I will have prices for the fence sets once the pre-orders start.

Here are some pictures of Prototypes. I hope to have the Viking Raider camp finished sometime next month. It will be sold in a few different sets. There will be a Raider figure set, a tent set, the Deer set with campfire and then the supply tent with some supplies. Some things can change.

Here are some pictures of LOD/Barzso Merrymen figures in green with my Vikings & Saxons. They look good with the figures and accessories.

The **Compagnies Franches de la Marine** was the main organization for the defense of New France from 1683 to 1755. In 1683, the Naval Department of France began using the Compagnies to defend the fur trade and the local civilians.

The Compagnies Franches de la Marine will start production in March. The scale of the figures with be the same as Barzso figures or 54mm. The color will be in grey. The 1st set will be of 7 figures in 7 different poses. A second set will be released soon after the 1st set. It will be a firing line of 7 figures in 3 different poses.

Happy Belated New Year. This is my first post of the year. It will be a quick one at that. I have been busy with work, making things and was sick with covid for about 2 weeks. I have been getting a lot of sets ready for production. Over the next month I am releasing another 6 sets. I have two sets that will be ready in a couple of weeks.

The first set is Set #7 Saxon Hare Hunter. The set includes a Hunter, a small tree and 3 different Hares. The set is $25.00.

The other set is Set #8 Saxon Wood Cutter. The set includes a Peasant will a fallen tree & stump. This set is $17.00.

I hope everyone had a nice time yesterday on Christmas. Today I am writing a quick post about some new sets coming out soon. Most are from Russia and one is a preview from me. Let the Wild Hunt begin…

We start with Igor Basevich announcing their next two Three Musketeer’s themed sets, the King Musketeers & the Cardinal Guards. They will be made out of plastic and probably in a few different colors. The scale is 1/32. I will pick these up when I see them.

Moscow Creative Association Seven Hills presents a new set. Stone Age-Hunting.
This set contains four miniatures of hunters and one figure of a cave bear. The material is rubber-plastic. The bear figure will be made of soft plastic or resin.
The pre-order of the set starts after the new year. Stay tuned for group updates.

Warhansa sent me a message about their first set for 2022. A Great swords set, Landsknechts / Dopplesoldners. They will be in 1/32 scale in rubbery resin.

The last preview is from me. I am calling this the “Pig Farm”. The set is almost completed. I am redesigning part of it. Hopefully I will have this released in February. It could sooner.

I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & Joyful Yuletide Season. I have been spending the last few weeks making sets from my house. Plus doing some tests with prototypes and trying different resin mixtures. For the time being all the figures that are being made will be in a light grey color.

We have another two sets available now. The first set is a “Flock of Sheep”. There are two options. The first is the four different Sheep, Alsatian dog & Saxon figure for $25 or just the Sheep & Alsatian dog for $20. The other set is the “Armed Saxon Peasants”. It includes 7 different figures for $49. You can also purchase the Wolves now without the rock for $20. The cost of shipping for one set is $6.95. Miniatures are scaled for our 57mm figures. Krampus, is a Central & Eastern Alpine folklore legend, a half-goat, half-demon monster that punishes misbehaving children at Christmas time.

Today we are starting to take pre-orders for Set #2 Pack of Wolves. The set includes 4 different Wolves and large rock. The Wolves are scaled to figures that are 55mm to 57mm in size.
