Vintage Plastic ~ Airfix Nato Infantry

Airfix Nato2

As a young boy I remember traveling to Ireland to visit my Grandmother and other relatives. I think it was in 1986 that I became a collector of Airfix figures. While we traveled through the small towns of Ireland I searched any hobby or toy store to be found. I picked up about a dozen boxes of the World War II sets.

Airfix Boxes

Each boxed set had 14 figures. Some times they had a extra figure or two. Each box cost about $4.00 at the time. I was able to find most the World War II sets in Ireland. This started me down a path to try to get a box of each set. Over the years I did get a box of each Airfix World II set in 1/32 scale. It was not until a few years ago that I started looking for the Modern or Nato figures. A few weeks ago I finally found a set of the Nato Infantry in really good condition.

This set has 7 different figures. The scale of these figures are smaller than the World War II figures. Here are some pictures below of the box and then some pictures of the toy soldiers.

This boxed set was produced in either 1983 or 1984. As usually the box art was really nice.

Here are all the figures. This set is filled with action poses. I like the soldier using the rifle like a club. I was surprised about the scale of these figures. This set and the Modern Russians are the same size. I will set up something in the future with both sets. I am still looking for a boxed set of the Russians. One day… If you are interested in learning more about Airfix figures check out this German link, http://airfix132.de/index.html.

Well that concludes another blog post. Thank you for reading.

Latest News!! 02/23/2019. Vintage Plastic Airfix Italians & More. Hobby News ~ Warhansa, Publius & Runecraft.

Warhorse Miniatures

Greetings everyone. A few weeks ago I received in the mail a package of mainly Airfix figures. I paid $20 for the lot. They had advertised Vintage plastic toy soldiers, Germans, British and others on eBay. They are mostly World War II plastic figures. When I looked at the pictures I noticed that the Germans where mostly Airfix Italian Infantry. These figures are 1/32 in scale.

Airfix Lot

I went through the box and divided the figures into about 10 different groups.

Airfix Lota

Most of the figures were Airfix but some where from other brands.

I have been looking for some more Airfix Italians for a while. I think this set was one of the last World War II 1/32 scaled figure sets that Airfix made.

Vintage Western

Here are some Vintage Western figures that I picked up. I think they are a mixture of Crescent and Cherilea figures.

Zero1

I purchased this used Ultimate Soldier 1/32 Japanese Zero for $25.00. It is missing a couple of pieces I think. I want to add this to a diorama that I plan on making later this year.

I received this W. Britain Collector’s Club Viking figure about 2 months ago. The last picture has a Conte Viking figure that I painted.

Latest News

Rodion Makheav sent me some preview pictures of Warhansa sets. I also found a few more. Most of these sets should be available in by the end of March.

I think these figures are about Conan the Barbarian. Conan was one of my favorite comics to read growing up.

These looks like another Conan inspired set.

This figure appears to be of Lenin.

This figure is of Harald Hardrada the King of Norway form 1046 to 1066. He is part of the 1066 Saga for the Throne of Britain. Harald lived a very interesting and adventurous life. He met his end at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066.

Here are the World War II Russian Infantry again.

Here are some figures from Runecraft Miniatures. I think they are part of Publius. They make some interesting figures in 1/32 scale. I don’t know when these will be available to USA customers.

You can find the Publius Saxons again on eBay. This time they are in blue.

The picture above is a preview of post that I will be doing in the near future. That is it for now.

Banzai!!! World War II Japanese Plastic Toy Soldiers Project.

WWII Japanese Toy Soldiers

When I was in my early teens I picked up some Airfix  World War II sets. I got a few of the WWII Japanese Infantry and it is still one of my favorite sets that I have. I put two videos above mainly just for the sounds of the Banzai shouts.

Ever since I picked up those Airfix WWII Japanese I have been looking for more plastic Japanese figures to go with them. The first set few sets that I got were the dark green figures. Later on I started finding the beige colored Airfix figures.

This is a project that I started many years ago. I am putting together different groups of figures to be used for a Japanese Army. I have found other brands over the years that are nice too. The Japanese figures by TSSD blend very well with the Airfix figures. I like the TSSD WWII Japanese figures too. They capture the “Banzai” attack with their set. There are action poses of running, shooting and charging with bayonets fixed on the rifles. The bayonets look really nice too. Plus the different pieces of head gear. Right now TSSD & Airfix are my favorite combinations to use.

This year BMC released recast figures using original Marx molds. These figures are really nice and seem to have not lost much accept some extra flash. I like the Marx figures too. They are a little taller and thinner than the Airfix Japanese for the most part.

Mars released a set of WWII Japanese figures this year. They match well with the Marx in scale. They are crudely made. I only like 4 of their poses. They are the running and shooting figures. I am going to try to customize a few of the figures to make them look better.

Next year Austin Miniatures is going to release a set of Japanese Infantry. From the prototypes they look really good. The Austin US Marines are really nice too. I will get a few sets when they are released. These figures should mix well with the TSSD & Airfix figures.

I will get some foam bunkers in the future to set up a nice display one day. Right now I have the BMC Iwo Jima playset and an old Playmobil piece to use. The BMC terran piece is really nice and so is the whole set. This is probably the best priced playset being produced today. You get a quality set at a great price.

BMC IWO JIMABMC IWO JIMA1

The BMC Iwo Jima Japanese figures are nice too. They are a little bigger than the TSSD and Marx figures.

Most of the poses that I look for are the ones that will join my “Banzai” attack. This was the Japanese tactic they used to try to overrun their opponents. They would rush against an enemy as a suicide attack. It was used mainly as a last resort.
