It was almost two years since the last Gettysburg Toy Soldier show. The 2020 show was cancelled because of the pandemic. The show had a great attendance. There was 45 dealers, 95 tables and over 200 attendees came the through the door. About every hour there was a prize of a $25 show gift certificate for a lucky collector. Which was a welcomed surprise to the winners.

Before I start. I apologize if I missed anyone or forgot your name with this post. It was a lot easier doing a review when you were just there as a collector instead as both a collector and seller.

Rick Eber said “It was a great show and they broke records for attendance (well over 200). I didn’t sit down until 2:00pm. Sold 12 playsets and tons of loose items. John Anderson (Onice Anderson) was up to his usual antics…buying and selling in rapid fashion. Met a bunch of new collectors to the hobby and several old time collectors/friends for the first time as well. Allan Ford sold at least 5 playsets and Mark Hegeman was super busy at his booth all day. Todd Nace bought several playsets to add to his depleted stock as he sold almost everything at the Lafayette show. Stephen Connell fell asleep at his table as he was exhausted from his hollering at us dealers all day…”Put Your Damn Masks On !!” Rick Keller and Ricky Lipps were selling out almost from what I could see…lots of great deals at their table. Great show for sure….that’s all I got.”

Mark Hegeman said “It was definitely busy. I barely had time to wander. I love meeting and talking with people and “sharing” my collection. Everything on my tables is something I originally bought for my collection. Most items are now doubles/extras and some are things I lost interest in or decided I will never have room to display.“

We will now start the tour of the show. I was not able to talk to each vendor or take pictures of each of them. I did take some random pictures of things that caught my eye. We will start with MicShaun’s Closet. David & Kim Cook came up from Tennessee with a bunch of plastic bagged sets of toy soldiers and foam buildings.

Next we have Rick Eber’s tables of vintage playsets and mainly Marx plastic figures. Rick as usually is a “Gold mine” for rare or hard to find vintage toys.

Now we visit Gary Green. Gary brings his mobile shop with him. His pre loaded shelves are set up like hobby store. He mainly sells boxed sets of 1/32 & 1/72 plastic toy soldiers. Also at the shows he usually has bins full of loose toys soldiers so you pick what you want. They are listed at different prices depending on the bin you are digging through.

Next check out the vendor that was promoting the “Heart of the South Toy Soldier & Miniature Figure Show and Sale”. The next show is Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 9am to 3pm at The Annandale VFD Community Center, 7128 Columbia Pike, Annandale, Virginia 22003. He had a mixture of different plastic and painted metal soldiers loose in bins.

We will now visit Joe Baker of playsetaddict.com fame. Joe was promoting the 3D printed figures made by Speira Miniatures. They look nice. Joe also had some Conte toy soldiers for sale too.

Next we visit Larry Lovely. He had plastic soldiers in bins to dig through.

The place we go are the tables that belonged to Mark Hegeman. He had a nice selection of vintage plastic toys soldiers, playsets and vintage toys.

Mark said “Next show for me is the Marx Convention in Wheeling, WV in mid June. Visit the web site of the Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum for details.“

Next we go visit the vendor that was next to Mark. I forgot his name, sorry. He also had a bunch of vintage playsets and toy soldiers.

Now we head over to Todd Nace’s table. He was one of my neighbors at the show. A great guy to deal with when it comes to vintage toys. He had some nice stuff at the show.

Next we will see what the vendor that was next to the Cooks at the show. He had old painted metal toy soldiers for sale.

The next vendor we look at is Robert Hornung. As usual he had his hand crafted and painted miniatures. He is at most of the shows that I attend.

Next we see Paul Amody’s Russian made metal figures.

We now have some pictures of what John Stengel had. When I got to his tables he had sold most of the things that he had brought with him. This is what he had left.

The next vendor was Tom Dubel. He had a bunch of painted metal figures.

Next we have Trains and Toy Soldiers. They had some painted metal toys soldiers for sale.

Now we will take a look at some random pictures from the show.

The next vendor travelled from Arizona for the show. It was a mini vacation also. Ron & Ron Jr Mayer are a Father & Son team that run “Where Eagles Dare, Toys & Hobbies”. They had a lot of model kits, bagged plastic toy soldiers, metal figures and other toys. They were my neighbors too. They were right next to Calvin Plowman.

And last but not least was the Infamous Mike Prendergast and his Warhorse Miniatures….

I had with me a bunch of LOD Barzso figures and plastic bagged sets of War of Troy figures. Plus the Medieval figures. Also some foam buildings and Mars plastic sets. I also had vintage figures for sale. I was supposed to have some Russian made sets but because of shipping delays the have not arrived yet. The same goes for my own Anglo Saxons. I am waiting for some weapons to complete 25 sets. If all goes well I should hopefully have these for the next show I will attend as a vendor in October at the Columbus Toy Soldier Show.

I also had on display some 3D printed items. I will be selling some 3D printed accessories in the near future. The first thing that I have is a Viking Raider camp. It will have a few different tents and supplies. These accessories will allow your Vikings to have a camp set up right after they departed their Longship. I will more information on this and other projects in a future blog post.

It was nice to see the crowds & vendors back for the show. The only thing missing was big painted metal dealer. I didn’t even purchase anything at the show. I would have spent $300 to $500 for some more W. Britain & John Jenkins Vikings and Saxons. Other collectors were disappointed too. Hopefully that will change for the next show. I would like to thank the two people that gave me a gift. They will join my collection. Thank you for reading and that is it for now.
