Last weekend was the Midwest Toy Soldier Show. It takes place over three days. Two days of room trading and one day for a conventional toy show. I was not able to take part in this year’s show. Like many others I was able to see some things from pictures posted on FB. I also was sent some pictures and information about the show. Collector Jason Evans provided me most of the photos and information about the show.

From what I heard the vendors and crowds were back. Almost back to normal. Here are some pictures from a couple of rooms. I will start with Atherton Scenics’s room. John had a bunch of foam products with him. Jason Evans provided me with these pictures.

Here are a couple of pictures below of what Robert Hornung had with him. He hand makes and paints his miniatures. Jason told me that Robert had some nice stuff.

Jason did some room trading also. Here are a few pictures that he took. The last two pictures are some of the things that he got while there. He found some nice King & Country products.

Next we have some pictures of Scott Canady’s room. He had a lot of vintage plastic toy soldier playsets and figure sets.

Willy Pickett had some hand painted mats to display vintage plastic toy soldiers. They looked awesome.

Collector Joe Baker had posted some pictures of the 3D printed Speira figures that he was selling at the show.

I heard that the show was good. The vendors and collectors returned to buy & sell. Here are a some pictures of the show thanks to Jason Evans & Michele Keller. Looks like there was plenty of vintage plastic, some rare Barzso playsets, highly detailed painted metal figures, plus imported plastic toy soldiers and other vintage metal figures.

I saw on Stad’s Stuff page and from some collectors in Russia about two new companies. The first one is called Солдатики ХАНОМАКА or translated Soldiers of Hanomaca or Hanomak. Right now they are making World War II Germans & Russian soldiers for Battle of Elbrus. They look nice. I will find out more information and pricing when it becomes available.

The second company is called “Vympel”. Here is a message that they have issued to collectors below and a few pictures of their products. I will have some more information about them in the future too.

“Dear friends, colleagues, collectors !!! Plastic miniature project “Vympel” is a hobby workshop that will delight you with interesting sets of game soldiers on a scale of 1:32 or 54mm. Our goal is to make historically accurate game figures that convey pain and despair, bravery and cowardice, experience and joy with weapons in hand. We plan to touch on many interesting historical topics and events, introduce the personalities and heroes of different armies and directions. The first set is preparing for release April – May. Let’s go!”

The first set is of the German Division SS “Das Reich”. The set consists of 6 shapes, the material of making polyurethane. In early July 1942 they were transferred to Northwest France. In November, the division participated in the occupation of southern France, then carried out garrison service. It was re-formed in November 1942 in Normandy (Northern France) into the 2nd Motorized Division of the SS Reich (2. SS-Panzergrenadier-Division Das Reich).

The last thing I am going to talk about in this post is about some plastic recast Atlantic Toy Soldiers that I found for sale on eBay. I am trying to find out the scale but they do look like the are 1/32 or close to it. The ones I saw were about $50 a set and around $100 for the Fort sets. The Brazilian company called Gulliver is producing these. I don’t know if this is the same company that made the Atlantic western figures in the 1980’s.

Update. The figures are about 2 & 1/2 inches tall.

The 2020 Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Review

Yesterday was the last toy soldier show of the year for me. The Columbus show survived the cancelations that many other shows had fell victim to this year. There was plenty of room for social distancing. Vendors and collectors had masks on. The crowds were bigger than the last show in Indiana. But they still were smaller than usual. The collectors that came found some rare items and some deals.

The event was held at The Point at Otterbein University. This was a new location for the show. The first thing you saw when you entered the building was Rick Eber’s tables.

They were loaded with mostly vintage Marx toys. You can take a look at Rick’s website over here, http://www.marxplaysets.com/. Send him a message if you see something that you like.

Across from me was Scott Canady, a fellow collector. He was selling of some things from his collection.

On the left of Scott was a vendor named Curtis.

Next to Curtis was another collector/vendor. I didn’t get his name.

On the other side of Scott Canady was Rick Keller. He had a lot of vintage plastic and playsets.

Not everything was plastic toy soldiers. Robert Hornung was selling his hand cast metal figures. He also hand paints each figure. Art in miniature.

Another vendor was selling antique toys & dime store metal figures.

Larry Lovely had plenty of plastic toy soldiers. He was selling them loose in plastic bins.

Todd Nace brought with him a piece of Marx Toy history. The board was hung on the wall at Marx Toys. I think these were test shots.

John Stengel Jr. had a bunch of plastic figures loose in plastic storage containers, vintage games, foam pieces and some playsets as usual. He had really good prices and sold most of the things that he had.

I had setup a display of my Anglo Saxons fighting the Prikaz Scandinavians Shield Wall figures. The grass mat is from Killing Fields. I used the LOD/Barzso foam buildings & river terrain pieces which I was selling. I also had LOD plastic toys soldiers and the LOD/Barzso resin figures. Plus some other items that I have picked up over the years.

Here are some pictures of LOD/Barzso re-issue figures that were painted by a collector. He had purchased these from me last month. They came out really nice. He had some problems getting the paint to stick. I am going to test out a few things to see if I come across the same problem in the near future. I usually will soak the figures in Dawn dish wash soap over night in hot water.

The Point at Otterbein University was a really nice place. It was a open place that had a food court and rest area. This is perfect for any collector that might have driven a few hours to take a break after searching at the show. The show will be held here again next year.

The only bad thing about selling things at the show is I have less time looking around the show. But I was able to find a few things.

Here is a Star Wars figure that I found before the show at an antique mall for a few dollars.

I had this set a while ago and had sold it. So when I saw it again I had to get this set. These Airfix Russians are cast in hard to find orange color. I think I paid $15 for these.

Here is the Barzso Playset Robin Hood’s Men plastic figure set in brown. 16 figures in 8 different poses. I picked this set up for $15.

Here are the four Robin Hood character figures. Friar Tuck, Little John, The Sheriff of Nottingham and Robin Hood. I picked these four figures up $15.

Test Shots of the New Revolutionary Cavalry figures by LOD Enterprises.

It is a week away from the Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show and I can’t wait. This might be the last show of the year. It should be a nice show. There will be some dealers from the last show in Indiana and some other dealers from the East coast. You should attend if you are a few hours away or want to make a weekend get away for the show. I will have the LOD Barzso sets, LOD Toys Soldiers, LOD Barzso foam buildings and some previews of things to come!!!!.

Let’s jump right into the news coming from LOD Enterprises. The first thing is Ken has a new setup with his website. You can take a look at that later by clicking here, https://lodtoysoldiers.com/. We will now take a look at the two new resin Barzso figure sets. They are 1/32 in scale. These are original sculpts that Ron Barzso didn’t put into producton. Lets take a look at both sets now.

Here is the first Vault set. This set includes a new Native American pose. This pose is paired with injured General Braddock and his trusted steed.

The other set includes three new poses never before released. A Huron warrior has captured two women. He is leading them back to camp. Each set sells for $15.00. I will have both these sets at the Columbus Ohio Toy Show.

As you can tell these figures will be an excellent addition to you collection. The can be used with other eras and different companies.

Here is a preview of the new Science Fiction sets of the movie “Another Plan from Outer Space”. They are plastic injection figures. The size is 60mm. These sets should be available towards the middle of November. Sets sell for $25.

These figures are nicely sculpted and you should have countless hours of fun to play with.

2021 Sneak Peek: Rev War Calvary. These are initial models in gray. They will be offered in multiple colors with various arm angles: Here are some figures that plastic color have been waiting for a long time. You better get your pre-orders in for this one.

Ken is thinking of using four different colors. Blue – Continental, Red – British, Green – Loyalists, and Cream – French. He will use a couple of colors for the horses as well.

Update!! The dozen tricorn hats in the diorama help to fill out the scene and that is why they are in it. We can let them relax by sharing that the figures with the tricorn hats were the first run by the sculptor. We corrected the headgear and will be issuing figures with the Tarleton helmets. ~ Ken Ciak

Hello Mike – thanks for the note. A couple of updates, though somewhat generic as the actual delivery dates have been pushed back a little here and there.

1) Duke’s Stronghold is available now – $275 plus shipping ($66 domestically).

2) New Santa set is in the Port of Chicago clearing customs. Should have mid-week.

3) Multiple Barzso sets being worked on, both new re-releases and re-orders of already run sets (character figures, Pirates). We have orders in blue, red, and tan being currently being worked on .

4) The new War at Troy set and alien set should both ship from the factory this week. I am expecting them to arrive mid-November.

5) More foam …. updated molds have been finished for the Barzso Medieval Era trees. There are two variations and we expect to have them ready for sale by the end of the week.

This will be the first time I attend the Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show. I will be selling LOD Barzso products again. I understand a lot of the same dealers from the Indiana Toy Soldier shows will be present and some different ones too. This should be a nice show. There was some nice deals and rare items last time. This show should not be different. The dealers will be here, so get your Arse there too!!!!.

This year the show will be in a new location. About 20 minutes north of Columbus it will be held at Otterbein University.

Tippecanoe Toy Soldier 2 Show 2020 ~ Review Part 3 ~ The Loot

Today I finally found some time to get this post up. I have been working more than usually lately and my time is limited these days. I really didn’t pick up to much this time. Just a few figure sets. I will let the pictures tell the story.

I picked up a bag of vintage Marx Japanese figures for $10. These are some of my favorite WWII Marx figures. I am going to wash these figures.

I picked these figures from one of Larry Lovely boxes. He gave these to me.

Here is a Marx Viking figure that I also got from Larry.

Here are a some Conte Alamo figures that I got from John Stengel Jr.

Here are some 60mm Barzso Playsets Merrymen. I also got these from John Stengel Jr. I wanted to use these in the display of the Medieval buildings I had on my table. I paid $15 for the Conte & Barzso figures.

I got these vintage Marx Colonial figures for about $2 a piece from Rick Keller. You can right click on the picture and open it in a new tab to get a closer look at the figures.

Besides the Marx Colonial figures I also got these Marx British Red Coats for about $2 a piece. A few months ago I had picked up a single Marx Red Coat. On my wish list was these figures to look for at the next show I would attend. They are a excellent match for Barzso figures.

This is the first time I saw these Aurora Camelot Medieval figures in the wild. They are about 54mm. Beautifully sculpted. Rick Eber was asking for $150 for this carded set. I purchased a loose figure set for $80.

There are 10 figures in this set. You get five men-at-arms, two, two Knights, two maidens and one bandit. These figures are made out of a hard model type plastic.

I got two of these Volk Designs Medieval cottages. I traded some die cast vehicles for them. These are made out a rubbery type foam. I love the way they look. Tippecanoe Toy Soldier 2 Show 2020 ~ Review Part 2 ~ The Show

Before we begin I would like to take a minute to reflect on the loss many of us experienced that day on September 11th, 2001.

Also before I start the review of the Tippecanoe Show, don’t forget about the Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show next month. You can read more about the show at their website, http://www.mwtoysoldier.com/Shows.html.

This was the only picture that I did take of the show. It was taken before the show started. It was a little busier than this, lol.

This year was the first year that I actually prepared to sell as a vendor at a toy soldier show. It was fun. I have been going to the Midwest shows the past few years as just a collector. Now it is both. In this post I will talk about the selling part and my next post I will show the toys I had found. So let us begin…

We loaded up the vehicle with mainly new products from LOD Enterprises. I had a lot of the LOD Barzso figure sets and foam buildings. Plus Marx recast Japanese figure sets, die cast tanks and bagged plastic figure sets that I had picked up over the years. I even had a few Star Wars toys. Plus I was previewing my set of Anglo Saxons that I will have available next year.

I did pretty well selling the LOD figure sets and foam buildings. The grass mat by Killing Fields was great with the displays. You can see more of their products by click here, Killing Fields Terrain co.

Collectors were able to take a look at my future set of Anglo Saxons. I will have more information about them by the end of the year.

I also had some of the Russian made figures from Prikaz for display. I had a small battle of my Saxons and the Prikaz Vikings. They are perfectly matched. You can order directly from him by using the email provided on that page.

I also had on display the New LOD Enterprises Science Fiction figures from “Another Plan from Outer Space”. I will have most of these products again at the Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show next month.

Also outside the main room was tables that belonged to Rod Chapman, Rick Lipp, Kole Sterling and collector named Curtis.

Here are some pictures of various tables. The show was mainly plastic this year. The big painted metal dealers didn’t make it to the show. There were a few tables that had some antique dime store painted metal figures.

Rob & Tera Roberts had some die cast vehicles and 21st Century WWII figures. Plus some hand painted figures for sale.

Bob Hornung was at the show with his miniature works of art for sale.

Here are some more tables from various dealers that had various types of toys.

It was nice to meet & talk to some of the fellow collectors that I see of Facebook. Jason Evans was one of them. He bought some action figures, toys soldiers and other collectibles to sell.

Trains and Toy Soldiers was here selling some toys soldiers too.

John Stengel Jr. sold most of his toy soldiers before the show even started. He had some playsets, foam terrain pieces and storage bins of loose figures. Because of the virus he has pushed back any plans for new figures for at least a year. Maybe more.

Volk Designs was at the show again with the custom made buildings and siege machines. They always have some really nice stuff. I picked up a few things from them as the show ended.

Even though the crowds were smaller than expected the collectors that did come spent their money. Because of the Virus, Holiday Weekend and probably collectors being unsure if the dealers would come was the result of the smaller crowds. Those that did come found some rare items and great deals. Next month you can come out to the Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show. This will be the last major show of the year. Looks like the East Coast Toy Soldier Show will not happen this year.

We are less than a week away before the Tippecanoe Toy Soldier 2 Show starts. I have been gathering some of the toys I have and will be selling them at the show. It is a mixture of new and old plastic figures for the most part. Some die cast tanks and a few playsets. Plus some foam buildings. I also will have a display of my Anglo-Saxons that will be ready some time early next year.

It has been a while since I have posted anything. I have been working a lot and have not had the time. I will have a few about the Tippecanoe show. First it will be about the room trading and then the show itself.

I can’t wait until this virus goes away. I already had it early this year. Luckily it was mild. Because of the virus most of my plans for this year have been dashed. I am getting ready for next year with my plans. I have been working on a few different things.

The Latest News!!! 07-19-2020 ~ Toy Soldier Review ~ 1/32 Terror Set By Chelovechek. Columbus, Ohio Toy Show Update!!!

Yesterday I received the No.4 Terror set by Chelovechek. The set is based on Franklin’s Lost Expedition during 1845 to 1847.

There are 6 figures included in this set. They are made out a rubbery type of resin. They are 1/32 in scale. I chose the blue color for this set. They also come in a dark gray and I think a brown color. The paper print of Captain Franklin was a nice touch.

I like this set very much. A couple years ago I watch the TV series called the “Terror”. Like the toy soldier set it was based on the story of Franklin’s Lost Expedition. The British Navy ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror got stuck in the ice while exploring Canadian Artic. I like the poses in the set. I wish that there were more though. Maybe they will do another set one day. For now I will add some Conte Alamo figures and some others that I think I can convert to fit the era. They are nicely sculpted and are a unique subject. I would like to make a small display one day. The MIDWEST TOY SOLDIER GROUP is hosting a toy soldier show this September in Lafayette, Indiana. There was a demand for this since the Chicago Toy Soldier Show had been cancelled. They are calling the new show “Tippecanoe & Toy Soldiers 2 Show”. Titled after the Battle of Tippecanoe which took place near the location of the show.

The show takes place on Labor Day weekend Sunday, September 6th from the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plus ROOM TRADING on Friday, September 4th & Saturday, September 5th through out the days. I will have a table at the show and will be doing a report on the room trading and show.
