The Latest News!! 04/24/2023 ~ 2023 Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show Review, MFCA 2023 Show, and some Hobby News.

Yesterday was the 15th Annual Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show. It was a really good show for us, sales were up. It was fun to talk to the fellow collectors and other vendors. The weather was nice, and a good crowd attended. Paul Stadinger was happy with his finds. There was a nice selection of different things. Something for everyone. I also found a few things; one was a holy grail item for me. We will start the review now. You can click on most pictures to enlarge them.

There was a nice selection of vintage Airfix and other brands with the dealer to the left of me. His prices were good.

Paul Amory was at the show with his beautiful paint metal miniatures. He will be at the MFCA Show on May 4th & 5th. I will be at this show too.

If you like Britain Detail figures or Swoppets, there was a collector that had a bunch of those.

Scott Canady had some nice Vintage Marx and foam pieces.

Steve Connell had a nice selection of many different things. From vintage Marx to modern painted metal. I crumbled under pressure when I saw his selection of vintage Barzso.

Fast Eddie had a bunch of tables setup with all kinds of different types of toy soldiers. His next show is on Saturday June 3rd in Annadale, Virginia. I will be setup at that show too.

The reasons we go to the shows is find rare items or some deals. Every show is different. You never know what you will find.

Some of the vendors are very talented. This one had some nicely painted figurines.

Matt from Hobby Bunker had a lot of new painted metal figure sets and some plastic for the show. He will be at the MFCA 2023 Show too.

Bob Hornung is also very talented with his handmade and painted creations.

There was plenty of antique & vintage painted metal figures.

This year there was a vendor with a lot of models.

Nathan Fogt is another very talented creation of custom toys.

There were a number of different vendors with different brands of new or recently made painted metal toy soldiers.

Here are some random pictures that I took.

Rick Eber had a ton of nice vintage plastic figures and playsets. Mainly Marx. He had some Conte Vikings and the Character figures from the Battle of Stamford Bridge set.

Some pictures of the show itself.

Thomas Hiller brought a lot of his collection to sell. He did a lot of toy soldier converting and then painting them. I was lucky enough to purchase his Conte Medieval Cog. I should have purchased some of his miniatures now that I took a closer look at them while editing these pictures.

If you like to go through plastic tubs of plastic toy soldiers, there was plenty of them.

There was a lot of vintage playset and bags of toy soldiers.

And lastly, we come to my table. As usual I had my resin Warhorse Miniatures, LOD/Barzso resin toy soldiers, some foam items and a few Russian brands of toy soldiers. I set up a little display to show off the British Grenadiers that I am working on. I had some sample figures for sale. I should have them finalized sometime next month. I also had my new Confederate Marching Infantry. I will be at the MFCA 2023 Show on May 4th & 5th.

Here are a few of the toy soldiers and accessories that I purchased. I wasn’t expecting to be getting that much. I have not been really looking of anything lately. But once in a while it finds me, lol. Steve Conell had a bunch of vintage Barszo products with him.

Up until yesterday this was what I had seen in regard to the Conte Medieval Cog. It was almost like a myth. About 7 or 8 years ago I saw the box at a show. It was really expensive, but I was still tempted. So, when I saw it yesterday, I was hesitant in checking it out. I really have not purchased that much the past few years. I have been more focused in making things. But I am still a collector. I had expected that someone would have picked it up before I got a chance to get over there. I think it was within the first hour of the show that talked to Thomas Hiller about the ship. He had a price that I was comfortable with, and we made the deal.

After I had purchased the ship Thomas packed it up. I did not expect that the box would be that big. Thomas still had the original box. Unless I sold all the foam products, I had with me I would not have any room in my car. Luckily for me Paul Stadinger was at the show. He lives about a half hour away from me. So, he took the ship and I picked it up today.

That is it for the review of the show. Usually, I would say until next year I be back for the Gettysburg Show. But this year there is another. Steve Connell is having a second show on Sunday, August 27th. The same place, 10am to 3pm. Admission is $7.00 for adults. There will be more information coming out, http://www.mwtoysoldier.com/Shows.html.

The Latest News!! 04/09/2023 ~ The Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show 2023, Updates & News.

Two more weeks to go until the Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show. I will setup as a vendor again. Besides all of my Warhorse resin miniatures, I will also be selling the LOD/Barzso resin toy soldiers. The town of Gettysburg makes a nice weekend getaway. There is so much history to explore. Plus, all the shops to check out too.

Every year the toy shows are a little different. There might be a new release that everyone wants or a rare collectible that a collector is letting go. This year looks promising for a few rare pieces that you could pick up. Thomas, a fellow collector is selling some of his collection. “Expertly painted plastic Indians and cavalry, Saxons, Normans, and Vikings. Scenery pieces, the Conte Cog ship, and more…. I wonder what the other vendors are bringing.

Here are a few of the latest releases by Publius. The Western figures look like new sculpts, but the some of the medieval figures have been available in metal already. The look really nice. I guess you can find them on eBay.

Next are some new miniatures by Runecraft. They usually have some nicely detailed and unique figures. And like their brother company Publius, you can probably find these on eBay.

Beleriand Toy Soldiers, another company out of Russia has a new set. These Apache Indians look fantastic.

And our last preview from Russia is this set of Vandals by Soldiers of Hanomaka. And like the others you will have to search on eBay, unless you know someone who sells them. Most of these toy soldiers are made out of a flexible rubber type plastic. The scales are usually around 58mm. The big 1/32 or small 1/30, somewhere in between.

In my last post I was talking about the new British Infantry that I am working on. I made two prototypes and then did some tweaking to them. The musket was adjusted and a few other things. I am working on a few reposes of the model and some new models. Next will be a firing line set. One of the new models will be an Officer. He will probably be sold separately or maybe in a small group. I was thinking of making a drummer and maybe another musician. We shall see. The first British sets will be the Marching sets, that will be in May. I might have a few sets at the Gettysburg show. And maybe another Marching set too and some prototypes.

That is, it for now. Thank you for reading and I will see you in Gettysburg.

The Latest News!! 03/20/2023 ~ Toy Soldier Shows, NJ, Midwest & MFCA and some updates.

I took a break yesterday from the 3d printing and went to a local toy soldier show not too far from me. The show was located in Wayne, N.J. I have never been to this show.

I got to the show about 20 minutes after the doors opened. There was around 100 people there when I got there. I left around 11am and there still was around the same number of people still there.

As I walked around the show, I noticed that about 75% of the vendors were selling painted metal toy soldiers from different eras. There were some displays setup to pick loose figures to buy.

Here is a layout of Del Prado figures.

A few vendors had used die cast vehicles for sale.

Other vendors had dimestore type toy soldiers.

One of the vendors is spin casting metal miniatures from some old molds that he had purchased the rights to. I think some of these were Sanderson miniatures.

The first vendor against the wall was Hobby Bunker. Matt had all the tables in the first aisle. He had everything, painted metal figures, metal vehicles, plastic toy soldiers, 3d printed & foam buildings, and some books & magazines.

There were some vendors with models and military related toys.

Besides Hobby Bunker, there was a few other vendors with new painted metal figures.

Like I said earlier above there was a lot of painted metal toy soldiers. Here are some older types that different vendors had for sale.

Gary Green was setup with all his boxed plastic soldier sets from different brands in different scales. There were a few other vendors that had some vintage plastic toy soldiers.

There was one vendor that had some nice painted metal toy soldiers, books and artwork.

Another vendor that had a nice selection of old Cherilea painted metal toy soldiers. I do not collect old painted metal figures, but I do have some. Once in a while I find them in the wild cheap and will pick them up. They have a certain charm to them.

Here are the things that I did buy at the show. I was not really looking for anything in particular but was happy to find the World War II Chinese toy soldiers. They were made by 21st Century. These are hard to find. I have a few other sets. Maybe someone will make some new WWII Chinese toy soldiers one day… I also picked up a couple of books for reference and some toy soldier magazines.

All in all, it was a nice show. I will look into attend some of the other shows that Ed Gries promotes as a vendor. The next show is on June 3rd. I am looking into setting up a table for that one.

Talking about future toy shows, later on this week there is one in Lafayette, Indiana. This Friday the 24th the room trading starts and then continues on Saturday. One Sunday the actual show takes place. I will not be attending this year but will return for 2024. It is a great show. For more information go to their website, Midwest Toy Soldier Show (mwtoysoldier.com).

Here are some protypes of the British Grenadiers and Regular Infantry. I have made a few adjustments, but the model is basically done. I will now work on a few more poses and another model. So hopefully by May I should have a few different sets available. The models are based on the 44th & 48th Regiments of Foot that took part in the Battle of the Monongahela in 1755. I will start mixing some resin too see if I can find a nice red color. They will be 1/32 in scale, 54mm or about the same size as the Barzso miniatures. Later on, I will scale them to match the W. Britian and John Jenkins figures.

The next show I will attend is on April 23rd in Gettysburg. I will have my latest resin sets with me. Plus, some of the LOD/Barzso resin miniatures for sale.

After Gettysburg, I will attend the MFCA show in May. In the next post I should have more information about my latest sets and plans. Thank you for reading.

The Latest News!! 02/12/2023 ~ Toy Soldier Shows, Warhorse Miniatures French & Indian War updates.

Hi everyone. It is already February and soon it will be spring. Which means Toy Soldier Shows. In my last post we learned that the Chicago Toy Solider show is cancelled this year, and maybe forever. So, if you like the show, then try to make it to ones that are still around. In about two weeks from now is the West Coast Toy Soldier show. If you are near California, then this is the show for you. There will be room trading on February 24th & 25th. The show is one the 26th.

The past few months I have been working on some new sets. All of them are based on the French & Indian War. They should be in production in a week or so. The miniatures are 1/32 in scale or around 54mm. The were made to be the around the same size as the Barzso playset toy soldiers. All these sets were made to be used in the Battle of Monongahela.

The first new set is called “French Canadian & Woodland Indian Raiding Party”. French-Canadian raiding parties made up of
Indians and Militia, stormed across the mountains and attacked farms and small towns in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, causing thousands of
deaths. The set includes 9 miniatures, 1 French Marine officer, 4 Canadian militia and 4 Woodland Indians. This set will cost $54.00.

The next set is titled “Ottawa Indian War Party”. The Ottawa were part of a long-term alliance, called the Council of Three Fires, with the Ojibwe and Potawatomi, who had shared or similar language, manners, and customs. These three tribes fought the Iroquois Confederacy and the Dakota people. They were also enemies with the Wyandot because of their ties to the Iroquois. They were allied with the French against the British. The set includes 8 Ottawa Indian warriors in 8 different poses. The scale is also 1/32 or around 54mm. The price for this set is $48.00.

The last set is titled “On the Warpath”. The ‘war path’ was the literal ‘path to war‘ taken by native Americans when travelling to an enemy’s territory to engage in battle. This set includes 8 different Woodland Indians. 1/32 in scale or around 54mm. The price for this set is $48.00.

Over the next few months, I will try to release one or two new sets that will also be related to the French & Indian War. That is it for now. Thanks for reading.

The Latest News!! 01/30/2023 ~ Chicago Toy Soldier Show Cancelled, Chintoys & Marx Recast Review, Plus some news and updates.

Last night I saw a few post on Facebook and then later on at Stads about the Chicago Toy Soldier Show being cancelled. They were having to many problems with the hotel that is takes place. Hopefully another location can be found in the future, or a new show can take its place. You can read more at https://www.stadsstuff.com/?p=23181.

In my last post I mentioned about the new sets from Chintoys. Here is my review below.

The first set is # 31, the Gangsters. There are 8 miniatures in 8 different poses. The color is nice and so is the detail. I like the poses too. Most are based off movie characters from a few different Mafia movies.

This set #32, The Police. At first, I was disappointed that they were not blue. But after a while I started to like the color. And again, these miniatures are based off of Mafia related movies. There are 8 figures in 8 different poses. One day I will paint these.

Both sets are really nice. They have a charm to them. The size of these miniatures is around 60mm. I purchased my sets from https://www.hobbybunker.com/products/plastic-soldiers-4/category?mfg=316&scale=Show+All&term=&order=newold. They are out of stock at the moment but are restocking these again.

The other day I stumbled across these Marx Recast WWII Sailors. I am not a big Marx collector, but I know that some sets are hard to find like these Sailors. The cost was around $30. The set has 7 miniatures in 7 different poses. The size is 54mm. You can get them in white or blue. The material is an ABS type resin. It has plastic type feel to it. It is a little pliable, but not like soft plastic. There are other Marx recast sets available too. Tim Geppert formerly of Classic Toy Soldier is selling these on ebay, https://www.ebay.com/itm/165888587499.

The other day I found these for a couple of dollars. They are made out of hard plastic. They might belong to some model train set. They are about 4 inches tall. I will use them with my Indians.

As some of you know, I have been working on some new French & Indian War sets. These are about the same scale as the Barzso Playset miniatures. I should have a few new sets released by the end of February. I have been testing and making adjustments to the miniatures. There will be a French Canadian & Native War Party set and a couple of Ottawa\Huron Indian sets. The pictured set above will be titled “On the Warpath”. There will also be some new trees and rock terrain pieces soon after. It is going to be Epic!!

I saw this post on FB by Wim Grundy.

Always plastic figures for sale at this show!

The Latest News!! 01/01/2023 ~ Happy New Year! New Warhorse Miniatures French & Indian War Updates, Previews and Hobby News.

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. So far, so good. I have wanted to make a post the last two months, but I have been too busy lately. Anyway, it is time for some updates and hobby related news.

When we last left off, I was heading to Ohio for the Columbus Toy Soldier show. There were a lot of good deals. I picked up a few Barzso foam pieces for a really good deal. Most of the show was vintage plastic. There were some painted metal toy soldiers available too. But no big metal dealer. The attendance was low this year. Here are some random pictures that I took.

I had set up a few displays of my latest products and some prototypes were for sale too. Plus, I had a bunch of different LOD/Barzso resin sets. Here are a few pictures of that.

I was a good boy for Christmas. Carolyn got me a few nice gifts. Here are some more pictures.

Here are some of the latest products that I add to my store page. Since November I have been focused on creating sets that are related to the French & Indian War. Besides the French Marines we now have Pack Horses, Teamsters, a group of Frontier homesteaders and some trees. There are now 30 different products available in the store page, Warhorse Miniatures | Product categories | Warhorse Miniatures.

The French Marines are now in being made in a new resin mixture. The color is a better and it is stronger now. I dropped some of these on a hard tiled floor from over 4 feet and they did not break. They are not unbreakable but now have a better chance of surviving a small fall of a table.

Here is an update to the Pack Horse Team Set. I am replacing one of the figures with this one. It is the same model, but now is reposed. I had to many problems with the production of the other pose. In this version the colonial teamster is stopping the horse with a big stick that he was carrying driving the animals forward. The musket is on his back and a blanket roll was added.

The Sheep set will be getting an update too. I am adding this Shepherd boy. The price will now be $25.

When I designed the Frontier Raid set it was to show how life along the frontier was. War parties of Native American Indians and Canadians would raid the homesteads. Here are some pictures below of some prototypes I am working on at the moment. I should have two different sets ready in February. The first will be the French Canadian & Indian War Party. The second will be Woodland Indians.

Here are a few random pictures of the Warhorse Miniatures and Barzso Playset miniatures to show the size comparison.

Here are two new sets by Chintoys. They are based on the movie “The Untouchables”. I pre-ordered some sets from Hobby Bunker. The first is a Police Officer set, Police–eight American figures in eight poses (The Untouchables) – CHT032 – Plastic Soldiers – Products (hobbybunker.com). The second set is Gangsters, Gangsters–eight American gangster figures in eight poses (The Untouchables) – CHT031 – Plastic Soldiers – Products (hobbybunker.com). Steve Weston is also selling them, Plasticsoldiers.co.uk: Chintoys. I will do a review when I get them.

I noticed that the Petite Guerre website was down the other day. So, I sent Nino an email to see how things were going. Right now, production has stopped. He is still active creating things and thinking of using a different platform or making a blog page in the future. I will keep you updated.

Here are pictures of some Normans by Prikaz. I don’t know how to order any sets from him at the moment.

Here are some new World War One German and Russian sets by Publius. They look really nice. So nice I want to start a World War One collection…

Well, we are just about finished with this post. Besides all the French & Indian War sets, I am still working on some medieval things. I should have the Potter set available this month some of the houses. I will release another Viking set in the near future too. Take Care for now. Thank you for reading.

The Latest News!! 10/13/2022 ~ Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show, Toy Soldier Review: Publius Franks and Moors, Warhorse Miniatures Updates!

Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show October 16th, 2022

The Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show is a few days away. On Sunday October 16th, I will be attending & selling my Warhorse Miniatures, Barzso Playset and other toy soldier products there.

Krampu verus the Warlord…

Here is the Krampus figurine that I had made last year. I will have several Krampuses with me at the show. The fantasy Viking Warlord figure will be available in the near future.

The New “Frontier Raid” set.

I have been working on a new early colonial American set. The set is titled “Frontier Raid”. It depicts settlers reacting to a raid by some Natives or Canadians. Some of the models are new and some have been repurposed from the Saxon raid set. The idea came when a few collectors said they could be used for different settings. I am designing a new French Canadian & Native American Raider set now. The Frontier Raid set is scaled to the 54mm Barzso miniatures. It should be released in a week or so. I am trying to adjust the color to match the Barzso American Militia set.

Saxon Cottage

The new Saxon houses are almost finished. This is the first house, another three being designed. The small cottage should be added to the store in a couple of weeks.

Saxon Potter

I am retooling the Saxon Potter Shop. There is a new model for the Potter. I really like the way he turned out. I am changing a few other things now. I think this set will be ready in a couple of months.

Publius Franks and Moors.
Publius Franks
Publius Moors

The new Publius sets look really nice. The details are amazing. I like the colors they have used. The only thing I did not like is the scale. They are smaller than some of their past medieval figures. They are a little bigger than the Britain Deetail figures and a little smaller than the Conte figures. The heads are smaller too. A lot of toy soldiers have bigger heads and hands than a sculpture/model of a human. It looks like the new Publius figures are 3d sculpted and not hand sculpted like they used to be. Not that I have a problem with that for obvious reasons. But instead of a toy soldier design, they look like a sculpture design. This is one thing I had a problem with initially, in the beginning of my designs.

The show should be fun. It is one of the last shows of the year. Well, that is it for now. Thank you for reading.

The Latest News!! 10/03/2022 ~ Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show, Toy Soldier Review: Beleriand “The Children of Hurin” set, Warhorse Miniatures Updates and other hobby news!

Sunday October 16th is the Columbus Ohio Toy Soldier Show. I will be there with a bunch of the Warhorse miniatures. I will be posting some pictures of the latest sets I am working on below. I will have these at the Columbus show. I will also have the LOD/Barzso toy soldiers, some foreign and vintage plastic toy soldiers. You can check out more information about the show over here, http://www.mwtoysoldier.com/Shows.html.

The Viking Raider Camp is finally finished. The set includes 9 new Viking poses, 3 tents, 3 wooden stake terrain pieces, a campfire and supplies. The cost is $200 for everything. You also have the option to get the set without the Wooden stake defense for $150. As usually the figures are about 57mm. The colors will vary from Beige to Brown.

Saxon Archers

Here is the new Saxon Archer set. The set is made up of 6 miniatures. The price of the set is $42.00.

Saxon Storage Hut Set

The Storage Hut set contains one hut and two peasants. The cart guy has two different cargo options to put inside the cart. The price of this set is $75.00.

Dead Saxons

Another new set is the Dead Saxons. This set contains 3 figures. The price on this set is $20. They could be dead drunk too…

The Raid set

Here is another set that is in production, The Raid set. It depicts Saxon peasants reacting to a Viking raid. The set includes 7 figures for the cost of $45.00.

Here are some new Vikings from Korchagin Studio. A new company from Russia. I like the way they look. I will let you know more details when they come in.

Beleriand Toy Soldiers “Childern of Hurin” set

I finally was able to get my hands on this set from Beleriand Toy Soldiers. The name of the set is “Childern of Hurin”. Based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Being a fan of Tolkien, I had to get these. The Character figures are based on the 1st age. They are about 65mm or so. I really like the details and style. Plus, the color is really nice.

Publius

In the next post I will review the Publius Franks and Moors. That is, it for now. Thank you for reading.

The Latest News!! 08/29/2022 ~ Warhorse Miniatures Saxon Blacksmith, Viking Raider Camp, King Harold Finehair and Allentown/Lehigh Valley Toy Show.

I hope everyone is doing well. I have a quick post on some updates and a toy show that I will be a vendor at on September 10th.

Saxon Blacksmith Shop
Viking Raider Camp
King Harold Finehair

Since I setup my latest 3d Printer I have been able to return to some earlier projects that I had planned to make. I spent about a month fine tuning the machine and started making a bunch of the Viking Raider miniatures. The last two weeks I was able to print some of the bigger items I had designed.

I am glad to announce that the Blacksmith Shop is now ready for production. The price for this set is $105. I will have it added to the Store page this weekend. The set includes the Shop, Forge, Blacksmith, Helper and tools & accessories.

It has been over a year since I started developing this set. I changed the Blacksmith, added some bases to the accessories, merged the spears to the weapon rack and rescaled a few things. The Shop and miniatures will be in a brown resin. The Forge and tools will be in a grey resin.

The Viking Raider Camp is almost ready now too. The tents are finished. The Supplies have been redesigned. I am designing some wooden stakes to finish the set. Plus, I am still testing the miniatures. Everything should be finished by the end of September. This set will cost $140.

Here is one of the latest miniatures that I had designed. This is Harlod Finehair, King of Norway. I will probably add him to the next set of Vikings.

On Saturday September 10th I will be a vendor at the Allentown Lehigh Valley Toy Show. It is located at the Charles Chrin Community Center, 4100 Green Pond Road in Palmer, Pa 18045. There are supposed to be 200 tables of vintage toys and collectibles. There should be a few vendors with toy soldiers. A little for everybody, Action figures, comics and games. I will be bringing my Miniatures, Star Wars figures and some comics. For more information check out this link, https://www.valleygoto.com/toy-show.

That is it for now. I will have more updates next month. Thank you for reading.

The Latest News!! 08/01/2022 ~ Warhorse Miniatures Viking Raiders Sets #1 & #2. Plus, some Warhansa news!!

This how I feel after making each set

In the last post we talked about some of the things I am working on. The Viking Raiders was one of them. This weekend I will add the first two Viking Raider sets to my online store. Each set includes 7 different figures. The size is around 57mm. Color is Sage Green. They will blend well with the Conte or W. Britain Vikings & Saxon toy soldiers. The cost for each set will be $49.00.

Viking Raider Set #1

Here are the poses that will be in Set # 1. There are different hair styles that range from the partly shaven head to the more classical look of long hair. Beards are everywhere. Plus, some of the figures are different sizes. The figure I named “Big Boy” is a Viking that would have been over 6 & 1/2 feet tall and over 300 pounds. Most of the poses show the men in a fast pace. They capture the feeling of a village being raided. Most of the warriors are lightly armored. Speed is their advantage today. They are armed with Axes and Seax knifes. Most warriors didn’t have swords at this time. But long knives, axes and spears were common.

Viking Raiders Set #2

Set #2 continues the fast pace. But about half of the poses are attacking with Dane Axes. These deadly axes had a long handle and usually a bigger axe head. They say this axe would shatter shields, split heads, cut off arms. Besides the swinging of the axe overhead there were other fighting techniques. You could clip at their legs, grapple shields away, or thrust from behind a shield wall to slash a neck. You will notice the different styles of helmets worn. From a simple cone shaped nasal helm to a more elaborate raven type.

If you are interested in getting these two sets you can send me a message at mike@warhorseminiatures.com.

Warhansa Landsknechts Artillery

Most of you know since the war in Ukraine there hasn’t been to many toy soldiers coming out of Russia. Plus, some of the companies have stopped or paused production. I was talking to the guys over at Warhansa. I am happy to learn they are designing new sets and are starting to get their products out again. You can check out their website, http://warhansa.com/.

Most of the new sets are Landsknechts related. They are also revisiting some of their older sets and working on tabletop battlefield pieces.

Starting to use the new machine for production.

I should have another post in a week or so about the Saxon “Raid” set, Saxon Dead and other updates. Plus, more pictures of each Viking Raider figure. I will start testing some of the bigger items now that I have the new machine working. Every month I will be adding something new. Check out the store page over here, https://warhorseminiatures.com/product-category/warhorse-miniatures/.

That is it for now. Thank you for reading.
